Solar panel IBI rebate: municipality by municipality in Mallorca

The IBI rebate for installing solar panels is set by each council independently, and varies a lot from one municipality to another.

What the solar panel IBI rebate is

The Property Tax (IBI) is a municipal tax, and each council may approve a rebate on it for homes that incorporate solar energy systems. The framework legislation allows this rebate, but it is each council that decides whether to apply it, what percentage to grant and for how many years.

Why it varies so much between municipalities

There is no single percentage in the Balearics: each council approves its own tax bylaw, with differences in the rebate percentage, the years of application and the deadline to apply after installation. Some also require that the installation is not mandatory under planning regulations in order to qualify for the rebate.

  • Rebate percentage (varies by municipality)
  • Number of years it applies
  • Deadline to apply after installation
  • Whether the installation must be voluntary (not required by regulation) to qualify
